Петрова црква или Црква Светих апостола Петра и Павла се
налази у непосредној близини Новог Пазара и најстарији је споменик црквене
архитектуре на простору Србије. На месту ове цркве налазио се ранохришћански
храм, који је био подигнут над надгробном хумком из 5. века пре нове ере, што
је откривено тек 1957. године. Петрова црква имала је велики значај у историји
српског народа. У тој цркви је Стефан Немања преведен у православну
вероисповест, ту је устоличен као српски велики жупан, а ту се и 1196.године одрекао
престола у корист сина Стефана Немањића. Такође Свети Сава је 1219.године Цркву Светог Петра
одредио за седиште Рашке епархије. У Петровој цркви сачувани су различити
слојеви архитектуре и живописа, где први потичу из 9.века, следећи из 11.века,
а трећи највероватније после осликавања манастира Ђурђеви ступови.

St. Peter’s Church or the Church of the Holy Apostles
Peter and Paul is located in the immediate vicinity of Novi Pazar and is the
oldest monument of ecclesiastic architecture in Serbia. On the site of this
church there was an early Christian temple, which was built again over a burial
mound from the 5th century BC, which was discovered only in 1957. St. Peter’s
church had great importance in the history of the Serbian people. It was in
this church that Stefan Nemanja was converted to the Orthodox Christianity.
There he was enthroned as the Serbian Grand Prefect, and there he abdicated in
1196 in favor of his son Stefan Nemanjić. Also, in 1219, Saint Sava designated
the Church of Saint Peter as the seat of the Eparchy of Ras. Various layers of
architecture and fresco iconography have been preserved in St. Peter’s Church,
with the first ones originating from the 9th century, the next from the 11th
century, and the third most likely after the fresco painting of the Đurđevi
Stupovi monastery
